VRangers Thrilling trek to Bhairavgad (Moroshi) on 6th Jan 2013

While travelling from Kalyan to Malshej ghat a clearly visible sharp wall like pinnacle separated from main range near Moroshi is a Bhairavgad. it is a prominent fort which rises steeply from konkan range making it a difficult and tricky fort to climb.

Trek: Bhairavgad (Moroshi)
Height: 2835 ft.
Region: Malshej.
Grade: Medium.
Max.Participation: 20 ppl.
Last date for reg. 3rd Jan 2013.
Cost: Rs. 500/- (The charges of the trek include breakfast, traveling from Dombivali to Dombivali by private vehicle.)

The top of the fort is created by the geological structure known as a dyke and the final stage on the rock mass is very fascinating. Dykes in Sahyadri are probably representation of fracture into which ancient magma was injected. Non resistant rock got eroded away and the one which were more resistant have appeared as great walls.

Bhairavgad happens to be only fort built on a dyke making it a must see wonder for trekkers. This fort must have been very important as it holds very strategic location looking on the ghat and paths to Mahali and junnar forts range. The exact origin of fort is not known but the style indicates that the fort dates back to Bhoj dynasty. Carved steps are the study point for this hill fort. Water tank at east side is also subject of study, how to preserve the water which is draining from the hill.

Brief Introduction of places:
Nasik is an ancient city of India. References are found showing its importance in all the four Yugas. It was known as Padmanagar in Kruta Yuga, Janasthana in Dwapar Yuga and Nasik in Kali-Yuga. It has many associations with the Hindu epic Ramayana. Lord Ram his wife Sita and Laxman was said to have cut off the nose (Nasika) of Ravana’s sister Shurpanakha here, thus giving the city name “Nasik”.

Shree Saptshrungi Gad near Nasik city is situated at a distance of 68 km from Nasik. It is one of the most visited and religious places for pilgrims. As the temple is situated on a mountain. Shree Saptshrungi Gad is one among the 51 shaktippethas temple in India and one of the four shaktippetha temple in Maharashtra, other being, Mahalakshmi temple Kolhapur,Tuljapur Bhavani Temple, Mahur Gad Devi temple in Mahur.

Saptashringa Ghad is a place where Goddess Bhagawati dwells. It is one of the most important of the places of Goddesses in Maharashtra. Saptashringa signifies seven mountain peaks. Nanduri village is situated at the foot of the Saptashringa Gad. In front of the temple there stands Markandeya Rishi's (sage) hill. The Saptashringa Gad is full of a variety of trees having medicinal worth. As per the story depicted in Ramayana, Hanuman carried the herbal medicine for wounded Laxmana from this hill. There are about 108 water reservoirs on the hill, known as Kundas.”It is said that there is one flag which is said to be at top of the mountain where Saptashrungi mata's temple is situated. This road is only known by one person that is A poojari and no one else. Before his death he gives information of this hidden road to another poojari and this goes on. But only one poojari knows the way”.

Vani is situated at a distance of 60 kms away from Nasik. Hindu almanac considers three and half days as highly auspicious. They are Gudipadwa - Hindu's New Year, Dushhera, Diwali and Akshaytritiya. Likewisedwelling places of Goddesses in Maharashtra are famous.

Ramshej
On the western tip of the beautiful Ramshej Ghat in Northern Nasik, lies the marvelous Ramshej fort. Ramshej is about 14km from Nasik, while travelling to Peth and from there it is a short trek to the fort. The fort is located at a height of 3273ft, which shows you the marvel of labor and effort that went into making it.

History has it, that the fort was attacked by Aurangzeb’s army, and his commanders threatened the Maratha kingdom saying that they would capture the fort in hours but Shivaji Maharaj’s son Sambhaji resisted these attacks for 7 years. The Fort thus remained with the Marathas for a period that was longer than the fighting lives of some of the commanders of Aurangazeb’s army who made the claim that the fort would be taken down in hours.
Some of the other attractions that this place has to offer are the fortifications that still remain, the handwork of the Ramlalla temple, the secret tunnel that takes you into the fort, caves that are hewn out of rock and a breathtaking view of the Trimbak range, Satmala range & Borgad.
